Summer Thesis Awards

Each year MBB awards several Mary Gordon Roberts Fellowships to support summer thesis research. Applicants must be juniors in an MBB track or the MBB secondary field who will be conducting research this summer that will contribute to their senior honors thesis. Funding is available for a combination of research costs, living expenses, and wages. Awards do not fund both living expenses and wages, and also do not fund travel between Cambridge and home. Recipients of Mary Gordon Roberts Fellows who receive financial aid are also eligible for a Deans Summer Research Award to go toward their summer savings requirement.

Because MBB funds are limited, we recommend that students seeking to conduct summer thesis research pursue other funding possibilities, including support from your thesis advisor or her/his laboratory/research program and the Harvard College Research Program (HCRP). MBB coordinates its awards with HCRP and other Harvard funding sources, to prevent multiple awards for the same project and thus to maximize the number of projects we are able to support.

You may use the same form to apply for the HCRP award and the Mary Gordon Roberts Fellowship. The HCRP is administered through the Student Employment Office (86 Brattle Street). Application instructions and forms can be found at http://www.seo.harvard.edu/resprog/hcrp.html.

The Mary Gordon Roberts Fellowship and HCRP application for summer 2009 will be due Wednesday, April 1st, 2009. In addition to the copies you must submit to the Student Employment Office, you must also submit a complete application (including recommendation) to MBB (Shawn Harriman, room 404, 14 Story Street).
