SUMMARY:MBB Distinguished Harvard Lecture: Yochai Benkler
DESCRIPTION:

Endogenous Beliefs and Preferences and the Problem of Power in Democratic Market Societies

<drupal-media data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="8698e177-db31-47af-8b65-fb87fb527266" data-align="left" alt="Benkler" data-view-mode="hwp_small"></drupal-media>The twin pillars of liberalism, generalized markets and representative electoral democracies, depend on assumptions about the origins and shape of human beliefs and preferences that are increasingly at odds with what behavioral research, on one hand, and the business practices of the most valuable companies in the world, on the other hand, teach us about human beings, and how we form and change our beliefs and preferences. What implications does this realization have for research in mind, brain, and behavior? What implications does it have for institutional design of both markets and democratic institutions?

The lecture is free to attend and will be held virtually via Zoom. To ensure that you will receive access to the event, register now. We will send out a link to the event on March 22nd.
