When aliens touchdown on Earth, linguistics professor Louise Banks (Amy Adams) and her team are tasked with determining why they are here and what they want. Our experts will discuss and debate the challenges that may arise in communicating with alien lifeforms and where the film succeeded and/or failed in this regard.

Abraham (Avi) Loeb, PhD is the Frank B. Baird Jr. Professor of Science at Harvard University, founding director of Harvard's Black Hole Initiative, and director of the Institute for Theory and Computation (ITC) within the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. His work focuses on a wide range of topics including black holes, the first stars, the search for extraterrestrial life, and the future of the Universe.
Jesse Snedeker, PhD is a Professor of Psychology at Harvard University. Her research uses simple behavioral methods to study language comprehension and production in young children, people with developmental disorders, and typical adults.
Moderator
Edward J. Hall, PhD is the Norman E. Vuilleumier Professor of Philosophy at Harvard University. He works on a range of topics in metaphysics and epistemology that overlap with philosophy of science.
