MBB 90r (Supervised Research on Topics in Mind Brain Behavior) is an individual research tutorial. You arrange the tutorial yourself, identifying a faculty member who will serve as your research supervisor for a project related to her/his research program. To identify labs or faculty, you may consult your concentration advisor, this website’s Research Opportunities section, or MBB Education Program Coordinator [Shawn Harriman](mailto:shawn_harriman@harvard.edu).

**To enroll in the course**, you should complete an application (linked from the bottom of this page) and submit it by the appropriate deadline (dates below). Also by the deadline, please add the course to your Crimson Cart and request instructor’s permission to enroll. Our faculty will then review your application and we will let you know the decision. If the application is approved, we will also get you the instructor’s permission in your Crimson Cart by course registration day. (MBB, not your research supervisor, will approve your Crimson Cart enrollment). Once you see that you have the instructor’s permission, be sure to move the course to the Enrolled Course section of your cart.

We are also willing to accept applications after the initial course registration deadline. In fact, we recommend you **submit your application during the open add/drop period**, just before and during the start of the semester. This is because the course application requires you to know specific details of your project: the general topic and specific question of your study and especially the work you will undertake to answer your question. These details are usually not available months ahead of time, during the regular course registration. Thus, we will accept late applications during the add/drop period (again, ideally the open add/drop period). For very late applications, keep in mind that we will need several days review time before the final add/drop deadline.

**Your work in this course** will be determined by your research supervisor, and usually entails regular weekly hours in her/his laboratory or research program. You will be expected to e-mail a one-page mid-term progress report to the [Shawn Harriman](mailto:shawn_harriman@harvard.edu) and at the end of the semester, you will submit a completed research report to your supervisor and to [Shawn Harriman](mailto:shawn_harriman@harvard.edu). The research report will be similar in length to a term paper and you should consult with your research supervisor to determine the content. Among the possibilities are a report summarizing your research (including any data analysis you may have done or any preliminary findings you have made), a literature review on a topic related to your research, or a draft paper for publication, or a detailed research proposal for a follow-up study. **Your course grade** will be based on your work in the lab and on your written reports.

MBB 90r provides 4 units of course credit each semester taken. The MBB 90r course ID is 125466 and the spring term class number is 10583. The divisional distribution is Social Sciences.
