Emiliano Santarnecchi investigates how brain structural and functional connectivity translate into a better resilience against “network perturbation” (e.g. healthy and pathological aging, stroke, brain tumor). He combines electrophysiology, neuroimaging and computational modeling with magnetic/electrical brain stimulation to identify novel biomarkers and to develop noninvasive brain stimulation therapeutic interventions for e.g. Alzheimer’s Disease, Schizophrenia and Glioblastoma. He also investigates the neural basis of human intelligence and abstract reasoning, as a way to develop innovative cognitive enhancement techniques that might help increase cognitive performance in both healthy subjects and patients with neurodegenerative conditions.
