Research Assistant Position: Social Interactions in Cognitive Development
Sandra El Hadi and Prof. Meredith Rowe, School of Education
fall 2024

The Rowe lab focuses on the role of social interactions in children’s cognitive development, primarily language and literacy development from birth to age five. Sandra's research interests lie in language acquisition/development and parenting. This position involves research for her dissertation, exploring parents’ language-related beliefs and practices with toddlers. **Responsibilities:** Primarily, helping with qualitative coding of interviews that were conducted in French. The transcriptions of the interviews are available entirely in French, but we will code them in English (i.e. we will use English codes/labels but the data is in French and not translated to English). **Requirements and Expectations:** RA expected to start work in late Summer/early Fall semester (ideally as soon as possible!!). The goal is to code the interviews as soon as possible. RA must speak French at a native or very advanced (equivalent to DELF C1 or above) level. Experience with qualitative data coding (and knowing how to use Atlas.ti) would be great, but it is not required. **Additional Information:** The position is unpaid but is available for course credit, and it can be done completely virtually if needed. Here's the [lab website](https://www.meredith-rowe.com/lab), but you will be working with Sandra, a fifth-year PhD student, on her project(s). **To Apply:** Send a short paragraph to Sandra (<sandraelhadi@fas.harvard.edu>) describing why you're interested in the role, how many hours and months you can commit to this project, and what you would ideally like to get out of this experience. Importantly, please make sure to mention your proficiency in French (e.g. courses completed, DELF certificate, etc.) (posted 8/24)
