Research Assistant Positions: Charitable Giving and Moral Cognition

Research Assistant Positions: Charitable Giving and Moral Cognition
Jason Nemirow and Prof. Steven Pinker, Psychology/FAS
fall 2019

We have ongoing work on the psychology of charitable giving (Effective Altruism in particular). We also have an early-stage project on climate-change messaging (specifically whether optimistic or pessimistic messaging is more effective at inciting people to act). And we plan to start a new research line on forbidden thoughts (stuff that spontaneously pops into your mind that you might hesitate to share with others). Broadly speaking, our research uses surveys and behavioral measures to explore social and moral cognition. Responsibilities: Your involvement will depend on your interests and abilities. Possibilities include: conducting a search of the existing literature, designing experiments, crafting experimental stimuli, collecting and analyzing data, and writing up findings for publication. Additional Information: Areas: social psychology, cognition/brain/behavior. Volunteer or academic credit. To Apply: Email Jason Nemirow at nemirow@fas.harvard.edu. (posted 9/2019)
