Research Assistant Positions: Eating Disorders and Overeating

Dr. Javaras’ research group is looking for a part-time research assistant to assist with ongoing studies. Dr. Javaras’ research combines psychology, neuroscience, and epidemiology to investigate
the development and maintenance of eating- and weight-related disorders and overeating, with the ultimate goal of developing more effective interventions (see http://www.mcleanhospital.org/biography/kristin-javaras). Her research also focuses on integrating innovative methodology and technology to better answer questions about the human brain and behavior. Learning outcome: Depending on background and preferences, students will gain training and experience in a variety of research tasks across the following areas: literature review, study design, task design and implementation, data collection, data cleaning and processing, data analysis, presentations, and scientific writing. Students will also gain knowledge of and experience with research on eating and eating disorders, emotion, and cognitive control. Requirements and Expectations: Attention to detail and dependability are required, as is enthusiasm and willingness to learn about all aspects of research. Experience with computer programming is not necessary, but is preferred. Prior research experience is not a prerequisite since training will be provided. A minimum commitment of one semester is required, and the position will involve spending 8-10 hours/week at McLean Hospital (located in Belmont, MA and accessible via public transportation from Harvard Square). Additional Information: In addition to weekly lab meetings, the student will meet with the PI and other members of the research team regularly for mentoring and training.
