A full-time laboratory Research Assistant I position is currently available with Dr. Christopher Yuskaitis, Co-Director of the Infantile Spasms Program and Instructor of Neurology at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Yuskaitis’ research program focuses on genetic models of epilepsy associated with nutrient sensing in the brain utilizing cell culture and animal models. We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented individual to assist with basic science and translational research projects. Responsibilities: This Research Assistant I will be responsible for (1) generating, maintaining, and genotyping transgenic mouse lines; (2) performing a variety of routine and specialized laboratory procedures, including DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and other relevant procedures, as necessary; (3) planning and performing behavioral assays; (4) maintaining neuron and fibroblast cultures and performing in vitro experiments; (5) performing molecular biology and biochemical assays on cell and mouse samples; (6) communicating regularly with lab members to discuss experimental results and to collaborate on completion of tasks; and (7) participating in laboratory meetings and presentations. Requirements: To qualify, you must have (1) a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, or related field; (2) experience working with rodent models in a research environment; (3) excellent problem-solving skills; (4) strong organizational and communication skills; (5) flexibility for occasional rotating weekend work. Preference will be given to highly-qualified applicants who can start as soon as possible. A two-year commitment is strongly preferred.
