Research Assistant Position: Pediatric Neuroimaging in Postmortem and In Vivo Subjects
Assistant Professor Lilla Zöllei, Laboratories of Computational Neuroimaging, Martinos Center, Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School
fall 2021

Principal Investigator Dr. Zöllei is interested in developing algorithmic solutions that will allow a more precise and more efficient quantitative analysis of brain images of perinatal subjects. She collaborates
with radiologists, neurologists and pathologists to decode healthy brain development and characterize disruptions to this process. Responsibilities: Would include one or more of the following: (1) literature review; (2) generation of scientific figures and plots; (3) manual editing and / or labeling of anatomical areas; and (4) testing and modifying deep learning-based tools to optimize for our specific applications. Requirements and Expectations: Ideally, the RA would spend at least 10 hrs / week on this project for the duration of the academic semester. There is, however, flexibility in the schedule and that can be discussed between the applicant and the PI. The candidate is expected to have a general interest in and high-level curiosity for neuroscience, computational methods and / or human neurodevelopment. Additionally, great communication and writing skills; advanced knowledge of scientific plotting / visualization tools; basic knowledge of human neuroanatomy; as well as a basic understanding of deep learning methods (prior experience is highly valued) would each and all be considered great bonuses. Additional Information: The PIs host laboratory is the Laboratories of Computational Neuroimaging (LCN) at the Martinos Center, MGH. It is located in the Charlestown Navy Yard in Building 149. Regarding work, currently, a hybrid model is recommended by the hospital, but personal preference for onsite / remote work will be discussed (guided by COVID restrictions). The PI is open to help the candidate obtain credit for the work done at the lab. Relevant conversations about requirements from Harvard should be discussed ahead of time. This can be a paid position. Students are also encouraged to apply for Harvard / outside fellowships.
