Research Assistant Position: Sleep, Cognition and Neuropsychiatry
Dr. Dara Manoach, Sleep, Cognition, and Neuropsychiatry (SCAN) Lab, Mass General Hospital / Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School
fall term

The SCAN Lab is seeking a volunteer Undergraduate Research Assistant. We are currently conducting investigations on the contribution of abnormal sleep to cognitive deficits, including in patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and schizophrenia. We hope that our findings will increase our understanding of sleep differences that relate to memory in psychiatric disorders and ultimately guide the development of treatments to improve daily function. Training Goals and Responsibilities: complete CITI certification and obtain other required (or IRB recommended) training on responsible conduct of research; receive didactic training on sleep physiology and scoring; attend workshops on sleep scoring and artifact rejection software; practice sleep scoring and artifact rejection to establish reliability with expert scorers; contribute to the lab’s ongoing efforts for sleep scoring and artifact rejection for EEG and MEG/EEG data; attend weekly lab meetings and seminars; complete MRI and MEG safety training to be able to observe MRI/MEG/EEG scans; complete training on the use of RedCap and work on data entering and maintenance; perform literature searches and, with guidance, prepare a proposal for an independent undergraduate project. Requirements and Expectations: Work 8+ hours per week. Ideal candidates would have some background in neuroscience, along with coursework/experience with research methods and statistics. Additional Information: see lab website at: http://manoachlab.mgh.harvard.edu. To Apply: email resume transcript, and contact information for three references to LWOODHAM@mgh.harvard.edu.
