The SCAN Lab is seeking a volunteer Undergraduate Research Assistant. We use multimodal neuroimaging and electrophysiological techniques to understand the contribution of abnormal sleep rhythms to cognitive deficits and symptoms in individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders, primarily autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia. Based on our findings, we are evaluating novel treatments to improve cognition and quality of life. Training Goals and Responsibilities: Completion of required and recommended training on the responsible conduct of research. Depending on the lab’s needs and the volunteer’s availability, the position may involve training on sleep physiology, sleep scoring, and artifact rejection for EEG, and MEG/EEG data; attending weekly lab meetings and seminars; assistance in running EEG studies; training on the use of REDCap for data entry and database maintenance; and subject screening and recruitment. There is also the option of conducting a mentored undergraduate research project. Requirements and Expectations: Work at least 8 hours per week. Relevant backgrounds include neuroscience, psychology, and biomedical engineering along with coursework/experience with research methods and statistics.
