Research Assistant Position: Vascular and Metabolic Imaging of Alzheimer’s Disease
Dr. Yi-Fen Yen, Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School
fall 2024
We are seeking a talented Research Assistant (RA) to join our team under the supervision of Principal Investigator Dr. Yi-Fen Yen. At the Yen Lab, we develop cutting-edge imaging techniques to study altered vascular and metabolic functions in rodent models of Alzheimer’s disease. Vascular abnormality and metabolic dysfunction can occur decades prior to the onset of AD symptoms. Our imaging techniques provide real-time visualization and quantification of brain perfusion and metabolic processes in animal model. Furthermore, we validate the in vivo imaging findings with ex vivo microscopy and histology. Currently, we have two NIH supported research projects. One is to explore the effect of exercise and gender difference in Alzheimer’s disease. The other is to develop a novel HyperPET imaging technology to study mitochondrial dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease. Responsibilities: The RA will be responsible for managing study protocols, animal handling, animal behavior testing, performing imaging experiments and data analysis, and dissecting animals to collect organs for ex vivo analysis, performing literature search, and disseminating study findings (including potential conference presentations and journal publications). Requirements: Experience in rodent handling; skilled in MATLAB or Python programming; knowledge of signal processing; excellent chemistry/biochemistry lab skills; excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint software; detail oriented. Additional Information: This is an in-person, paid position, ideally suited for students who intend to pursue graduate/medical training in neuroscience and medical imaging. The Martinos Center is in Charlestown Navy Yard. The RA will have ample opportunities to interact with the broad research community at the Martinos Center and have access to center-wide neuroimaging webinars and training. Lab/PI website is at https://yenlab.martinos.org/. To Apply: Please send a resume and the contact information of three references to Dr. Yi-Fen Yen (yyen1@mgh.harvard.edu). Applicants from racial or ethnic groups that are underrepresented in the biomedical research field are strongly encouraged to apply. (posted 9/2024)
