Research Internships: Cognitive Neuroscience of ADHD
Dr. Anne Arnett, Division of Developmental Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School
fall term

The Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience conduct groundbreaking research on neurodevelopment within the Division of Developmental Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. The Arnett Laboratory is a newly established human subjects lab studying brain correlates of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among school-aged children with ADHD and very young children who have familial risk for ADHD. Our lab is seeking part-time research interns to support ongoing studies that involve neuropsychological assessment and Electroencephalography (EEG) with young children and their families. Responsibilities: The student’s experience and training needs will determine their tasks in the lab, which could include providing behavioral support during research visits, literature searches, data entry and management, signal processing, statistical coding, EEG acquisition, participant outreach, and/or supporting recruitment efforts through social media and other methods. The intern will be invited to collaborate on research projects with laboratory members, which could result in a poster presentation or peer reviewed publication. Expectations: Students with a range of skills and interests are invited to apply. Possible interests/experiences include: child development, psychology, psychiatry, signal processing, coding, statistical analysis, marketing and communication. Requirements: For students interested in supporting research visits and recruitment: experience working with children, strong communication skills, enthusiasm and friendly attitude. For students interested in coding and signal processing: skilled in MATLAB and/or R programming. For students interested in social media and participant outreach: strong written communication skills and artistic experience. Interns will be required to be in-person in the laboratory, with the potential for virtual hours once the student is established. In accordance with hospital policies, interns will be required to be fully immunized against COVID-19 prior to their start date. Additional Information: The student will work closely with Dr. Anne Arnett and Dr. Virginia Peisch during the internship. The student will have ample opportunities to interact with other interns and researchers at the Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience. The student will have access to bi-monthly journal club meetings, undergraduate-focused LCN seminars, grand rounds, and other educational opportunities. Currently, this is an unpaid position, but the student may be eligible to earn course credits. This position is ideally suited for students who intend to pursue graduate training in psychology, neuroscience and pediatrics. To Apply: Interested applicants please send a brief coverletter and CV to Dr. Anne Arnett (anne.arnett@childrens.harvard.edu). (posted 8/2021)
