Research Internships: Cognitive Neuroscience of ADHD

Research Internships: Cognitive Neuroscience of ADHD
Dr. Anne Arnett, Division of Developmental Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School
fall term and beyond (could start any term but we expect students to stay with us for at least 2 terms preferably more)

The Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience conduct groundbreaking research on neurodevelopment within the Division of Developmental Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. The Arnett Laboratory is a human subjects laboratory that studies brain and genomic correlates of attention and behavior regulation among children ages 2-14 years old. Our lab is seeking part-time research interns to support ongoing studies that involve neuropsychological assessment and Electroencephalography (EEG) with young children and their families. Responsibilities: Each intern will be assigned at least one long-term project, in addition to supporting the day to day operations of the lab. Tasks include interacting with and supporting children during research visits, literature searches, data entry and management, signal processing, statistical coding, EEG acquisition, participant outreach, and development of marketing materials. The intern will be invited to collaborate on research projects with laboratory members, which could result in a poster presentation or peer reviewed publication. Expectations: Interns are expected to be in the laboratory 8- 10 hours per week during the school year and at least 15 hours per week during the summer. We require a commitment of at least two terms. Students planning to write a psychology or neuroscience thesis should contact the lab before the fall of their junior year. Requirements: We encourage applications from students with prior experience working with children, strong communication skills, and/or experience working in MATLAB, R and Python. Interns are required to adhere to expectations for workplace etiquette, including arriving on time for in-person shifts, dressing appropriately, and communicating respectfully with colleagues and research families. In accordance with hospital policies, interns will be required to be fully immunized against COVID-19 prior to their start date. Additional Information: The student will work closely with Dr. Anne Arnett and post-doctoral fellows during the internship. The student will have ample opportunities to interact with other interns and researchers at the Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience. The student will have access to bi-monthly journal club meetings, undergraduate-focused LCN seminars, grand rounds, and other educational opportunities. Students may be eligible to earn course credits. To Apply: Interested applicants please send a brief coverletter and CV to Dr. Anne Arnett (anne.arnett@childrens.harvard.edu). (posted 7/2023)
