FAQs, Internships in the Geriatric Psychiatry Student Visitor Practicum (McLean Hospital / Harvard Medical School)
Is there a difference in opportunities between an Academic Credit Student (ACS) and Student Visitor (SV)?
• There isn't a difference! We provide both types of students with the same opportunities. ACS refers to students who would like to receive academic credit for their participation in our program. Further details explained in the bolded section above.
I made an error on my application; can I make changes?
• Once an application is submitted, it cannot be edited. To minimize errors, please take extra care to carefully proofread your application prior to submitting. If an error still occurs despite your best efforts, please contact efiske@mgb.org.
I applied and haven't heard back, what should I do?
• If you haven't heard back up to 3 weeks from the date of your submission, please contact our program lead, efiske@mgb.org, to inquire about your application status.
How long can I stay in the lab as a student visitor?
• Student visitors can stay up to a full year in our lab!
When is the best time to apply for an internship at GPRP?
• We recommend applying at least 3 months prior to the semester you intend on starting. For example: a student planning to begin their internship in May should apply by February.
I did not get accepted into the program; can I apply again?
• Yes! We encourage candidates to re-apply to our program if they do not get in the first time.
Can I work on any study or am I just assigned to one?
• We balance the interests of the student and the needs of the program to curate a list of
available student projects. You will not be limited to one study but are expected to contribute wherever help is needed.
Can I pick which lab I am assigned to?
• While placement is determined by multiple factors, we aim to match students with their preferences.
Does this position offer compensation or does this position include a stipend?
