Neurobiology of Sex and Aggression (half course throughout year)

Have you ever wondered why animals are attracted to the opposite sex, why they attack other animals, or how they decide with whom to mate and with whom to fight? In this course, we will study how genetic and neural pathways direct males and females to act the way they do. We will cover topics such as fighting flies, testosterone-promoted male behavior, same-sex sexual partners, and more. In the last weeks, we will also discuss the way sex research is covered by the media and its social implications. Prerequisite: LPSA/LS 1a, MCB 80 and permission of the instructor.
